This is one of the last pictures taken of "Ginger" on January 17, 2013 at 15 years and 2 months - before she began her battle with dementia in April 2013. She always wore her fur in a teddy bear trim - which made it easy to forget that she was elderly and our time together was drawing to an end. "Ginger" was my first dog and I was fascinated with her. She was so easy to train and teach. She learned many tricks which included "be a bear", play dead, roll over, dance (moved in a circle on her hind legs), walk (across the room on her hind legs), give me a "5" (gave me her paw when I extended my hand). We enjoyed showing off for company. She also made known her needs to me and my mother, Doris, who lived with us. For example, if she was tired at night, she would stand by the bedroom hall and bark - until we went back. If she did not get her supper around 4 PM, she would go to Doris and bark. In the evening, she would bark at me for her treats. In the wee morning hours, if needed, she would bark to wake me up to go outside - and, if I did not hear her, she would jump against the bed to shake it. She also loved to go for car rides - she would run through the house and bark at Doris - and she would not get in the car until Doris got in. As you can see, we spoiled her immensely. So many memories and I enjoyed every minute of my life with her. It is such a big void now that she is gone. Before we parted, I told her many times to "be there" for me by the Rainbow Bridge because I was coming for her - a little later - to cross over together.
